Oregon extends winning streak with sweep over Fresno State

Oregon completed its fourth sweep of the season and extended its winning streak to eight  with a 7-0 home win over Fresno State Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the No. 20 Oregon improved its record to 12-1. The match was the Ducks’ final home non-conference match of the spring, and they finished out the non-conference schedule undefeated at home.

Oregon has consistently dominated doubles play this season and received another impressive showing on Saturday as they won the point on the doubles side for the eighth straight time to take an early 1-0 lead.

The No. 2 duo of Daan Maasland and Simon Stevens won their match 6-2, while No. 3 Oregon duo Thomas Laurent and Cormac Clissold. Oregon’s Armando Soemarno and Jayson Amos, the No. 19 ranked doubles pair in the nation, led their match 4-3, but it ended unscored because the Ducks clinched the doubles point with the first two victories.

On the singles side, Amos captured anothet quick point for the Ducks with a 6-0, 6-1 win on the No. 3 court to capture his ninth straight singles win. Shortly after, Stevens followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win on the No. 4 court to put the Ducks in control of the match, and minutes later Oregon No. 6 Bartosz Sawicki clinched the wins for the Ducks with a 6-2, 6-4 win.

Sawicki was a late addition in the No. 6 spot, where Ethan Young-Smith normally plays for the Ducks.

Laurent dominated his match at the No. 2 spot 6-1, 6-3, and No. 70 ranked Maasland won his match in a second-set tiebreaker to continue his recent hot streak. Clissold battled his way through two tiebreakers to win his match 7-6(5), 7-6(2) to complete the sweep for the Ducks.

Oregon will hit the road and travel to Des Moines, Iowa for the final road match where they will face Drake University in their final preseason match of the season.
