Men’s tennis defeats Loyola Marymount
The No. 42 ranked Ducks handily defeated Loyola Marymount in L.A this weekend, 5-2.
“We certainly didn’t play our best today,” head coach Nils Schyllander said in an interview with GoDucks. “But we got a convincing win and that’s all that matters. ”
The Ducks secured their fifth straight win with the victory and improved their record to 9-1.
The action began when Oregon’s No. 36 ranked doubles team of Jayson Amos and Armando Soemarno defeated their doubles opponents, while Cormac Clissold and Thomas Laurent won their match on No. 3. The Ducks earned the doubles point and continued into singles play.
Laurent was first to finish in singles play when he quickly defeated Cristobal Rivera. But the defeat of No. 49 Maasland, who fell to his unranked opponent from Loyola, brought the match that much closer.
The remaining Ducks — Simon Stevens and freshman Ethan Young-Smith — picked up the slack with wins to secure Oregon’s victory.
The Ducks earned their final point when Amos delivered his fifth straight singles win.
After this sole away match, Oregon is heading back to Eugene next weekend to take on the No. 47 ranked Indiana.
