Lauren Jones to be honored by University of Oregon community with vigil on Sunday night

There will be a candlelight vigil Sunday night to remember University of Oregon freshman Lauren Jones between Deady and Fenton Halls at 7 p.m.

Jones, a member of the acrobatics and tumbling team, passed away Tuesday. She was 18.

“The dress code is neon because we know she wouldn’t want us to wear black,” Izzy Fasheh said in a text message.

Organizers say there will be a video presentation and they hope to have Oregon acrobatics and tumbling coach Chelsea Shaw speak. Her friends from Barnhart Hall also plan to say a few words.

Jones died as a result of meningococcemia, according to Lane County Public Health officials.

Saturday night, about a hundred of Jones’ family and friends gathered in her hometown of DeKalb County, Georgia to hold a vigil.
