Health: New ways to defend yourself

We like to think that we are safe when walking through campus from potential threats, but as the days get shorter and darkness falls around late afternoon, things can get sketchy quickly without warning.

Women on college campuses across the country are advised to carry items such as pepper spray, a charged cell phone and flashlights for if they find themselves in danger.

There are other advancements in defensive devices that are just as useful. If you’re tired of having a carry around a large can of pepper spray in your purse, Cabela’s outdoor store offers something smaller but still packs a punch for $9.99. The Sabre Red Pink Lipstick Pepper Spray is everything you need in a pepper spray but looks just like normal lipstick.

Did you know that pens could become useful defensive tools?

Not exactly your ball-point pen, Takedown Tactical Defense Pens on sale for $14.99 (online at Blade HQ) are pens that can be used defensively and feature a glow-in-the-dark tip for easy access and a quick getaway.
