Fashion: Standout rain gear

Dressing for the season is commonplace. But when that season lasts for six-plus months and is noteworthy for chronic sogginess and darkness, it can leave little motivation for  an expressive wardrobe.

While you can’t break through that gray slate of sky, here is a sampling of rain gear that will let you break the monotony that is Hunter rain boots and rain shells.

“Blade Runner Style” LED light umbrella: Many people mention that using an umbrella in Oregon marks you as lame, soft and a non-native. Those people better watch out when you start wielding this light-saber-like device around — $25.

Leopard Print Vinyl Rain Coat: So, there is no hood. Yet another valid reason for the umbrella. If that is not a deal breaker, then this coat is perfect in every which way. Vinyl animal print could become the new faux fur in a place like Oregon — $40.

Loeffler Randall Rain Booties: These are so pretty. If I were to use the word minimalist while trying not to sound totally annoying, it would be when describing these boots. They are also adaptive; deceive people into thinking you are wearing standard trendy lace-up boots, minus the watermarks — $132.
