Protestors threaten Pacifica Forum advocates with violence

Letter to the editor

Someone among the handful of University students protesting against Pacifica Forum these past few months posted a message on their Facebook page that incited the public to “kill a Nazi.” After my letter to the editor, in which I criticized the behavior of those protesters, was published in The Register-Guard, I was repeatedly called a “Nazi” on that same Web site. So what am I supposed to think now?

But even if this was not a direct threat to me or anyone at the Pacifica Forum, imagine if someone were to write “kill a Jew,” or “kill a gay,” or, for that matter, “kill an anarchist.” Well, I don’t doubt that there would be instant explosion of outrage and demands to remove any such message immediately.

I know for a fact that if anyone posted anything criticizing the actions of the protesters themselves, it would be also deleted right away. But now, when there is incitement to murder, there is no reaction whatsoever. For more than a week, this “kill a Nazi” message hasn’t been removed.

Those who protested against Pacifica made a big fuss out of groundless accusations that the Forum was allegedly a “threat to public safety.” But how am I supposed to feel as a student on the University campus when I know that there are some students inciting violence?
They have crossed the line between criticizing or protesting Pacifica Forum and actually threatening to physically harm people.

How foolish of Gabriella to think, just because anarchists accuse her family of being Nazis, post the statement 'Kill a Nazi', and stickers which say things like 'Nazi Scum Wake Up It's Time To Die' she is in some sense being threatened. And how backward they must be to see the alliance between Zionists and the left in America to suppress freedom of speech as in some sense a confirmation of old prejudices about Zionists and the left being allies. Perhaps all immigrants from Eastern Europe should spend time in re-education camps run by the Anti-Hate Task Force.

Some kid posted a punk song on the facebook page. It's not inciting violence. If anything it's sharing the long history and tradition of punks fighting back against the violence and killings of fascists.

By the way, Gabriella is a white supremacist/national socialist of some sort! Her father is a pacifica forum speaker. Why would she be so upset about a punk song against Nazism? There is no double standard!

It's somewhat strange that I haven't heard about these protesters which call for violence and murder on Pacifica Forum members anywhere on the mainstream media, even among side stories. Now I also learn that they can get away with doing this simply because this government supports them. Things are a little more dangerous in the US, as we can all see, and it's clear that conspiracy theorists like Eustace Mullins may have been right about some things.

Throughout the years, I've seen only 1 thing protesters are actually good at. And it's something I'd like to see alot more of them do. Chaining themselves to trees.

Nicholas Stachelrodt explains criminal law fairly well. But there are various exceptions. Even if someone cannot be found guilty of incitement or assault under criminal law, they may be fined millions of dollars as a result of a civil suit. This is particularly true in the state of Oregon. Even vague advocacy of violence against a group of people can result it ruin. The 'anti-hate' brigade should be more careful.

CALL 'EM A NAZI if you don't like 'em. A Zionist-Communist-Anarachist political policiy. Oh .. and use the 'Thought Police Task Force' to inforce your technocrats ideology. That's Eugene.

Guess it really was about a safety issue. First you repeatedly refer to people interested in attending the Pacifica Forum as Nazis, no matter if they're not. Then you post a "Kill a Nazi' video.

Where have I heard about this m.o. before?

The original Facebook page can be found on pacificaforum dot org website
There is no evidence regarding who shot that guy in Portland, but the 'indy' and 'corporate' media alike repeat the claim it was 'neo-Nazis'

So as for the incitement to commit violence i believe it has to be incitement to immediately commit violence against some very specific party. "such and such group should all probably die because they are no good poopy faces" doesn't quite fit the legal standard if i understand correctly. As for 18:57's comment there are simply some people who would like to protect the liberty of everyone in an unbiased manner, that being said it does sucks when principles make you defend the rights of people whom you seriously disagree with.

I think we should remember that it was neo-Nazis who shot someone in Portland a few weeks ago...

Really warped set of priorities from Gabriella.

I actually cannot find the comment that is referanced. Maybe if you put up a link this would be a bit more credible.

Ironic. Always seemed to me that the concept of discriminatory criminalization of speech would turn into, "Open mouth, insert foot."

Last year, comments were posted on the Indymedia website arguing that people who support Pacifica's freedom of speech should have their heads kicked in. One of us recieved a death threat. Another of us had graffiti on his workplace saying that he is a Nazi, and stickers were found saying "White Trash - Nazi Scum - wake up it's time to die". Another brave fighter for justice opined "If someone should kick one of their asses, we should applaud... These scum don't deserve to exist". Notice that some of them attempt to make threats while remaining within the law. But their violence and self-righteousness makes them stupid, and I thought, sooner or later, they would step over the line...
