Students who showed up to the Fall Kickoff concert Saturday expecting to see indie rock band Rogue Wave were instead greeted with flyers informing them the band had canceled their appearance.

Front man and lead singer Zach Schwartz, aka Zach Rogue, injured himself Friday resulting in a hospital visit and the band's cancellation, said Darrel Kau, Cultural Forum programs coordinator.

The band has not released details of the injury.

Eugene-based Blast Majesty filled the gap left by Rogue Wave's absence. The concert, originally scheduled to be on the Memorial Lawn, was moved to the EMU Ballroom earlier in the week because of rain.

Funding for the concert came from the ASUO over-realized fund, extra money collected from the roughly $600 incidental fee each student pays annually. Rogue Wave will refund the money to the Cultural Forum, but the exact amount has yet to be determined.

Once that money is refunded, there are two options for where it will go.

According to ASUO Accountant Lynn Giordano, over-realized funding requests must be spent on the purpose specified on the request form or they roll back into the over-realized fund. In this case, the request stated the funds would be spent on a Fall Kickoff concert.

Though the request does specify the concert's date as Oct. 4, if the Cultural Forum can come up with an event that reasonably qualifies as a Fall Kickoff concert, it will get to spend the money. If unable, however, the money will roll back into the over-realized fund.

Misunderstood

I think you misunderstood. Rogue Wave was never actually given the money. We don't pay artists until AFTER a show and since they couldn't make it, they were never paid. (Continued…)
