Drug violations skyrocket over past two years; burglary and other crimes decline

The only crime rate that increased? Drug violations - by more than 150 percent.
In 2005, 229 people were given judicial referrals from DPS for drug violations. In 2007, that number increased to 581.
The report shows that reported bike theft dropped to 102, down from 281 in 2005.
Burglary and motor vehicle theft also showed large decreases; burglary dropped to 38 cases from 71 in 2005, and only eight cars were stolen in 2007, compared to 26 in 2005, according to the report.
