MATCHUP: Jeremiah Masoli vs. Ellis Powers BSU safety, courtesy art

Like Oregon rover Patrick Chung, senior Ellis Powers is a force on Boise State's defense, ranking third on the team in tackles and tied for first for solo tackles. Unlike Chung, however, this has been the 5-foot-10, 200-pound Powers' breakout year for the Broncos after 37 tackles last season, mostly coming on special teams, where he was named special teams player of the year. Powers could have a major impact on Saturday against sophomore quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, who will split time with Chris Harper due to Justin Roper's knee injury against Purdue. Roper will be out for two to four weeks, which means the Ducks will likely emphasize the running game even more with a largely unproven quarterback. Against Washington, Masoli showed he can win, but his progress in the next month could be a gauge of how the Ducks' season will go.

BY THE NUMBERS

2: Number of interceptions Oregon had against Purdue.

17-0: Mike Bellotti's career record against teams from the Western Athletic Conference. That includes this year's 66-24 win over Utah State.

7.0: number of points Boise State allowed on average through two games this season, which ranks seventh in the nation.

.813: Boise State's winning percentage since 1998, the best in the nation.

104-24: BSU's record since 1998, one win behind national leader Texas.

87: Wins by Boise State since 2000, the best of any West Coast program. Oregon is third, with 67.

3-9: Boise State's record versus ranked teams.

3,601: BSU running back Ian Johnson's career yards total, second-most among active players (West Virginia's Pat White has 3,666).
