QB Kempt transfers to Montana State for football

Oregon sophomore quarterback Cody Kempt was released from his football scholarship and will transfer to his father's alma mater at Montana State, the Bobcats announced on Wednesday.
Kempt completed six of his 26 pass attempts during his brief tenure as the Ducks' quarterback after injuries to Dennis Dixon, Brady Leaf and Nate Costa forced him into the starting role.
"The first thing we're excited about is that Cody is familiar with the Bobcat program because of his family connections," Montana State coach Rob Ash said in a press release. "That should allow him to come to Bozeman and plug into MSU easily. Second, his familiarity with the type of offense we're running is exciting. He should be able to make a smooth transition to our program in that regard easily, as well. Most important is that we really like Cody Kempt as a person. He's an excellent student, a tremendous citizen, and he's transferring for all the right reasons. He wants a chance to play. He's a first-class person, and it was an easy decision to welcome Cody to our program."
Kempt, who was vying for playing time in a crowded quarterback field, will be able to play immediately at Montana State (a Football Championship Subdivision school). His departure will leave the Ducks with five scholarship quarterbacks on the roster.
