Jewish film festival begins tonight, discussion to follow

Beginning tonight, several Jewish campus organizations will be sponsoring "The Four Children: A Jewish Film Festival" aimed at explaining Jewish people and Jewish life. All films will be shown in 100 Willamette.
After tonight's 7 p.m. showing of "The Hebrew Hammer," writer/director Jonathan Kesselman will be in house to talk about humor and film in Jewish culture. This exploitation film brings to life a strong Jewish action hero, modeled after such great Blaxploitation films as "Shaft" and "Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song."
Tomorrow after a 7 p.m. showing of "Mechina: A Preparation," filmmaker Maital Guttman will discuss life in Israel and why she made the film as an echo of Jewish life. This documentary explores what it means to be 18 in Israel. The film documents a year in the lives of six young Israelis as they prepare for mandatory military service.
The films are sponsored by Oregon Hillel, in association with the Jewish Student Union, StandWithUs Israel, This Is Israel and Alpha Epsilon Pi.
Tickets are available at the UO Ticket Office for $2 per night for students and $5 for community members.
