A University student was arrested early Friday morning after he allegedly fired off more than 15 successive gunshots near campus.

The Eugene Police Department received a call at about 2:45 a.m. When officers arrived at the parking lot behind Prince Lucien Campbell Hall, near LTD's South University Station, they found 15 shell casings and sociology major Charles Benjamin Wisner, 22, standing there with a .40-caliber handgun.

"I believe he kept firing rounds off as he was walking," said Mike Drake, an officer at the campus Department of Public Safety. Police believe Wisner was under the influence of alcohol at the time.

Wisner was arrested on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, resisting arrest, reckless endangering and unlawful discharge of a firearm.

"He did not have a concealed handgun license," Drake said.

Drake said Jose Manuel Vargas, who was with Wisner, was also arrested on a parole violation for possession of a controlled substance. Vargas is not a University student.
