Early Saturday morning, a man startled a taxi driver near Spencer View Apartments when he pulled out a knife and demanded money, police said.

At about 2 a.m., an employee from Jerry's Taxicab Co. was waiting for a pickup in the parking lot at the apartment complex at 2250 Patterson St. when a man approached the passenger side of the taxi and knocked on the window.

When the employee rolled down the window, the man "thrust a knife through the open window and demanded money," said Mike Drake, a Department of Public Safety officer.

"The guy rolled up the window and drove away," Drake said.

Police have not identified the man, who is estimated to be in his 20s. The driver did not have a more specific description because the man was wearing a ninja mask.
