Workshops to be held for middle school students

The Office of Multicultural Academic Support is hosting its 21st-annual Reach for Success event that holds workshops for middle school students of color from across the state this Saturday, April 19.
The event invites self-identified students of color (of Asian, African, Native American or Hispanic/Latino descent) to spend the day participating in various workshops put on by University students, faculty and community members who volunteer their time, said Brenda Tuomi, the program coordinator.
Workshops include mini-courses in a variety of academic fields taught at the University.
The event hosts a maximum of 300 middle school students each year, usually turning away dozens. Reach for Success holds workshops for students' teachers and parents, who are also invited to come.
There are between 24 and 30 volunteer presenters and 80 student volunteers that help run the day-long event.
Reach for Success begins this Saturday in the EMU Ballroom at 9:30 a.m. and continues until 3 p.m.
