University Housing is looking at the possibility of on-campus gender-inclusive housing options

Following the lead of a handful of Oregon colleges, University Housing is exploring the possibility of creating a gender inclusive housing option for University students. Sandra Schoonover, the director of residence life, and Chicora Martin, with Student Life, are beginning to research the subject in the hopes of developing a proposal sometime soon in which different genders will be able to share a room.

Savvy and innovative students can take comfort knowing that Eugene recently got a nod for its business start-up environment. The city, however, was almost left out. Fortune Small Business magazine ranked Eugene as the 96th best place in the country for entrepreneurs to start a business out of 100 cities the magazine published as part of its April cover story.

Sam Dotters-Katz and Johnny Delashaw won the race for ASUO Executive outright Friday night after receiving 50.8 percent of the votes cast. The Oregon Action Team candidates spent more than four times the amount of money spent by their rivals on the Rock the Yellow slate.

Irish speech and debate students argued their way to the University with technique and style after earning the title of national champions in Dublin, Ireland. Following the Irish Times Debate final competition in February, three privileged students won the chance to compete on a two-week tour of American universities.

On Wednesday night, the Student Senate passed a resolution opposing the use of Tasers on campus, confirmed one of the ASUO's biggest critics as its newest member, and argued about how to handle senators who come to meetings intoxicated or don't show up at all.

Oregon Democrats to hold campaign events in Eugene

The Democratic presidential campaign will swing through Eugene again this weekend, though it likely won't include as much hype as recent candidate visits. The Democratic Party of Oregon will hold its platform convention at the Eugene Hilton Friday through Sunday.
