	Sixty-six years later Former University Japanese-American students received honorary degrees by Jill Kimball Since 1955, only four alumni have received honorary degrees from the University. On Sunday, an additional 20 were added to that list. All 20 honorees, half of whom are deceased, were Japanese-American University students whose academic careers ended prematurely in 1942 when Presidential Executive Order 9066 required them to evacuate to internment camps during World War II. In accordance with a recently passed state bill that allows Oregon universities to award these former students honorary degrees, the University hosted a luncheon and graduation ceremony Sunday for the 20 students forced out 66 years ago.

	New advertising policy shakes up ASUO elections The policy regards campaign clothing, advertising in the Emerald by Robert D'Andrea ASUO candidates could have their names removed from the election ballot if they wear campaign clothing on the same day an advertisement in their favor appears in the Emerald, according to a decision by the elections board. The policy goes into effect Monday, but as of now will only be implemented if the advertisement in question was paid for by a voting member of the ASUO.

UTSAV, or "festival," commenced on the upper level of the EMU, where attendees enjoyed a traditional Indian meal including chicken curry, chana masala and gulab jamun.

The author, journalist and professor focused his lecture on ending the genocide in Darfur, Sudan. Prendergast currently works for the ENOUGH Project, a campaign to help prevent genocide and mass atrocities, and co-authored the New York Times bestseller "Not on Our Watch" with actor Don Cheadle.
	College of Education ranks fifth nationally The school's high scores have been attributed to its successful research and outreach program by Jessie Higgins The University's College of Education was ranked fifth in the nation among graduate schools of education in the recently published annual U.S. News and World Report's survey, its highest national ranking ever. The same survey ranked the college's special education program third in the nation for the ninth consecutive year, according the college's Web site.

	Presentation demonstrates relationship between civil rights, women's rights movements Serena Mayeri addressed how the evolution of the Equal Rights Amendment has led to the current state of feminism by Braden Wolf \| Freelance Reporter Serena Mayeri spoke about the parallels between the racial justice and women's rights movements during the 1960s and 1970s in front of an audience of more than two dozen students and faculty members in room 375 of McKenzie Hall on Thursday afternoon. She also talked about how these movements led to the creation of a "women and minorities" category in the legal system.
