Bijou Art Cinemas plays host to Lunafest films

The seventh annual Lunafest film festival will be presented at Bijou Art Cinemas on Tuesday.
Lunafest is a national festival that features short films made by women for women. The Bijou showing, hosted by The Duck Store and Life Cycle Bike Shop, will be just one of hundreds throughout the country.
The festival's mission is to provide women filmmakers opportunities to be seen and heard as well as to empower women by highlighting relevant narratives and providing a way for non-profit groups to raise funds.
Nine films are featured in this year's festival, including "Make a Wish," a film about a Palestinian girl who will do whatever it takes to buy a birthday cake; "Breaking Boundaries: The Sondra Van Ert Story," a documentary about the determination of the Olympic athlete; and "Pockets," an animated short about pockets becoming a metaphor for motherhood.
All the films are winning entries from last year's Lunafest film competition.
The festival begins at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $10 for community members and $5 for students, and all proceeds benefit the Women's Center and the Breast Cancer Fund.
