Students and community members in Eugene are trying to spark that down-home environment, square dancing for more than two hours on Saturday night. About 80 students participated in the dance, most getting into spirit with overalls and accents to boot. Portland has a vibrant bluegrass square dance culture while Eugene hasn't quite formed one. Student organizers hope that this can become a monthly event and want to form a square dance club here at UO.
