Eugene's gas tax will decrease by two cents per gallon after a petition with 11,084 signatures was filed Wednesday

Starting tomorrow, Eugene's gas tax will come down to 3 cents per gallon - the same as Springfield's and Veneta's - thanks to a group of petitioners and gas station owners. The Eugene tax has stayed at 5 cents per gallon since 2005, but a petition with 11,084 signatures filed Wednesday brought it back down and ultimately will force the issue to a public vote.

On his 56th birthday, Athletic Director Pat Kilkenny and his wife Stephanie donated $1 million to University academic programs, and Kilkenny's annual half-million dollar salary will be split between academics and the athletic department this year and next.

You may see them sleeping under bridges, camping out in makeshift shelters along the Willamette River or heading back to the shelters that they call "home," but the homeless population in Lane County isn't always visible. But just how many homeless people reside in Lane County? The One Night Homeless Count, conducted by Lane County officials, found that on any given night in Lane County there can be 2,111 homeless people found sleeping on the streets or living in shelters, slightly down from last year's count of 2,278.

UO aims to gather 175,000 pounds of food for drive

University employees asks the public to help donate to FOOD for Lane County during the last stretch of the food drive that ends today

Today is the last day of Gov. Ted Kulongoski's State Employees' Food Drive. All the food and money collected from the University's drive benefits FOOD for Lane County. This year's goal is to raise 175,000 pounds of food, according to coordinator Karen Scheeland.

It's safe to say that most University students haven't heard of the Worrynauts. When the band released their first album, "Five Years EP," in June, they only made about a dozen copies. The band's August follow-up, "Three People In A Basement With Toys EP," only had one copy, which they auctioned off at a show.
