Regional character defines more than demographicsIn my opinion | All I Remember Is...by Matt Petryni"Barack Obama should easily win in Washington state," said one CNN commentator ahead of the Washington caucuses Saturday, "because he tends to do well among young and well-educated populations." The assumption being, of course, that Washington state is full of young, well-educated voters. |
Tasers would be detriment to on-campus atmosphereGuest Commentaryby Guest CommentaryAt a town hall-style meeting at the University School of Law on Jan. 29, Department of Public Safety Director Kevin Williams made clear that although he does not have a specific written proposal at this time, his goal in the very near future is to allow DPS officers to carry Tasers on campus. |

Holy Cow's superior commitment to sustainability outweighs Laughing Planet optionLetter to the EditorThank you for running the "Holy Cow debate isn't so black and white" editorial (ODE, Feb. 8) and pointing out some important facts surrounding this issue, most notably the financial situation the EMU is in. However, I would like to point out that the issue isn't whether or not Laughing Planet is guilty of being "greenwashed. |

Why doesn't ethnic studies have its own department? And why doesn't the administration care?Letter to the EditorThe domineering question of our generation is "why?" We are constantly questioning the structure of power and creating new, innovative ways to make our voices heard. So once again I ask a question. Why not make the ethnic studies program a department? I've heard the administration's reasons for not making ethnic studies a department, but I don't think they've heard mine. |

Barack Obama is more focused on people and their families, deserves your vote in primaryLetter to the EditorPartisan politics drove me to become an independent voter. Our strong two-party system has built walls between us. With no allegiance to a party, I'm evaluating presidential candidates differently. I want to support someone who focuses on the issues that can unite us, not those that divide us. |

Laughing Planet unlikely to improve on Holy Cow's sustainable practicesLetter to the EditorYour recent editorial ("Holy Cow debate isn't so black and white," ODE, Feb. 8) over the impending loss of the Holy Cow Café at the food court in the EMU shows a blatant disrespect for an established and compassionate business. This is apparent from the ill-conceived childish drawing of a bloated cow that your staff chose to print. |

Any fiscal improvement Laughing Planet may bring will only be a drop in the oceanLetter to the EditorWhat is it with you guys and Holy Cow? First it was "Dirty Hippies, Take a Hike and Get a Life!" Now it's, "Fiscal Responsibility Made Them Do It!" The notion that replacing Holy Cow with Laughing Planet will get the EMU out of its financial mess is, well, laughable. |
