It's sad that President Frohnmayer's pledge to reduce carbon emissions at UO was only an attempt to greenwash the University's image, no doubt to entice the growing number of environmentally conscious tuition-paying students.

Profit, rather than the welfare of the students and campus as a whole, seems to dominate the University's concerns lately: hence the fancy new expensive arena - and replacing a sustainable green vegetarian business with one that serves meat, is not completely organic, and isn't local.

UO is supposed to be one of the greenest universities in the nation - that's why we have eco-friendly buildings like Lillis and the LLC dorm, tons of trees, a fantastic recycling program, and Holy Cow. The EMU's decision to get rid of Holy Cow is tantamount to spitting on our reputation for being a fantastic, environmentally friendly, sustainable center for education and progress. It's an affront to the students, and it's incredibly disappointing.
