Thirty of Eugene's finest will soon be hitting the city's streets with a new tool at their disposal. The Lane County Board of Commissioners authorized a grant last Wednesday authorizing almost $190,000 to install cameras, known as Digital Patrollers, in 30 Lane County Police Officers' squad cars.

If there is one thing I abhor more than anything else in politics it is the politicizing of events, especially that of natural disasters. Generally the party that is not at the helm of the executive branch submits to politicizing events in order to garner votes for their party in the next general election.

The Measure 50 tobacco tax unfair burden on smokers

I'm writing in response to the Emerald's editorial concerning measure 50. Taxing tobacco to pay for others' needs is wrong in several ways. One, by taxing others to pay for your child's health care relieves you of the responsibility that you brought on yourself.

The October 26 article "Satan manifests itself in food with high fructose corn syrup" may mislead consumers about high fructose corn syrup. Dr. Walter Willett, Harvard School of Public Health Nutrition Department Chairman, told The New York Times, "There's no substantial evidence to support the idea that high-fructose corn syrup is somehow responsible for obesity.
