Pyrotechnic juggling group Earth Matters performed at Diablo's Downtown Lounge this weekend

Diablo's Downtown Lounge was on fire Thursday night; no one was harmed, but people were definitely blown away. As intermission entertainment for the Eugene Drama Kings, Earth Matters Productions amazed the crowd with a daredevil fire dancing and juggling routine.

As the lights came on, Nicole Garbin emerged. She sat on her dance partner's lap and tossed the hat off, stood up and was off. Moving back and forth across the stage, the former face of Oregon soccer made swing dancing seem natural. Garbin, who coolly scored goals under pressure at Oregon, found a new competitive outlet Saturday night.

Skeletons have invaded the Maude Kerns Art Center. Usually conjuring creepy feelings, these skeletons are featured in charming artwork celebrating Dia de los Muertos. The Mexican holiday, also called Day of the Dead in English, is not one of candy or ghoulish high jinks but one of tribute and remembrance.

New horizons are in vision for the new executive director of the Oregon Bach Festival, with the festival set to run parallel this June and July with what may be the largest athletic field day in the Eugene's history: the 2008 U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials.
