Japanese anime destroying American society

Japanese anime destroying American society

In My Opinion | Instant Gratification

by Elon Glucklich

It wasn't until around the fifth grade that I began to think something was wrong. That year, a strange new cartoon worked its way into the social lexicon of coolness. It was called Dragon Ball Z and, for reasons my 10-year-old mind could not articulate, it was making me nervous.

Frohnmayer right about state funding to a point

Editorial

by Emerald Editorial Board

The worst kept secret among students and staff alike at the University goes something like this: The amount of funding allotted to the University by the state is wholly inadequate. This fact served as the backdrop for President Dave Frohnmayer's ultimatum to the Oregon State Board of Higher Education earlier this month.

Passing student tickets out on Sundays would solve many problems that plague the process

Letter to the Editor

I know there is a growing frustration within the community about athletics and scholarship. I would like to suggest a move that the University Athletics department/Ticket office could make to show support for academics in light of the new (much slower) student ticketing system.

Students miss too many classes because of Monday morning ticket distribution lines

Letter to the Editor

After reading the opinion piece by Jacob May about skipping class to wait in line for tickets, I had to add my two cents on this issue. It is stupid to hand the tickets out on a Monday. People do have morning classes, and they do want to go to the game. Why not hand the tickets out on Sunday instead? That way students can attend the game AND make it to class.

Profane headline makes Emerald look immature and unprofessional

Letter to the Editor

I wanted to weigh in on the headline for your editorial in support of Colorado State's use of profanity in its student newspaper. Dumb. Immature. Bad choice. Unprofessional. Expletives are for those who have limited vocabulary, intelligence and/or imagination.

Lil' Wayne concert failure not a surprise with Oregon's hip hop track record

Letter to the Editor

When I first heard of 94.9 Jamz bringing the "Gods of Comedy and Hip Hop" to the Pit, I thought to myself it is too good to be true. Because I was hesitant, I didn't buy a ticket to the show, that and Oregon hasn't had a good track record with hip hop acts - anyone remember Nelly's short visit to Eugene? I feel for anyone in town, let alone students that drove down from Washington for the concert.

Eugene City Councilor Alan Zelenka should be recalled over eminent domain

Letter to the Editor

Alan Zelenka's advocacy in favor of eminent domain for Dave Frohnmayer's proposed expansion of campus and replacement of Mac Court is having an increasingly detrimental effect on the Fairmount neighborhood. Councilor Zelenka's willingness to publicly support the massive, yet to be determined, University expansion and land acquisition scheme warrants a recall effort.
