Mayor Kitty Piercy appointed an 11-member Citizens Advisory Committee that will meet during the summer to give public input for the West Broadway Redevelopment project.

The committee members are meant to represent the public's interest in the downtown area and Eugene. Those selected for the group are local business owners, architects, citizen committee members, and a host of other residents chosen for their ability to give meaningful input.

"Bringing vitality to our downtown core will help turn a new page in Eugene's future," Mayor Piercy said in a news release. "These citizens exemplify the kind of active engagement that helps make things happen. We greatly appreciate the generous donation of their time and insights."

The re-development of downtown Eugene is taking place around two of the area's most neglected blocks, West Broadway between Charnelton and Willamette Streets.

After a decision to adopt principals from competing proposals, the city's Urban Renewal Agency agreed to invite public input in the form of a Citizens Advisory Committee.

The 11-member committee will work with a qualified urban planner/facilitator and the developers to identify preferred design elements and other issues facing the project.

Beginning in late June the advisory committee is scheduled to host general public input sessions, and come together to propose a recommendation to the City Council.
