More than 4,000 people packed on the lawn outside the Bean Housing Complex Thursday to watch about 60 riders tear up four dumptrucks worth of snow in the first UO Rail Jam. University freshman Elliot Nathan took home $550 and a golden ghetto-blaster as his first place prize in the UO Rail Jam .

Senate Bill 838 requires electric utility companies to start using renewable energy resources

Oregon is on its way to mandating the reduction of air pollution through renewable energy with the passing of the Oregon Renewable Energy Act. Senate Bill 838 stipulates that electric utility companies that sell electricity in an amount equaling 3 percent or more of all electricity sold in Oregon are required to generate 25 percent of electricity from renewable energy resources, or RES, by 2025.

A public relations firm hired by the state Department of Human Services met with University students and campus leaders Thursday to hear feedback on how to spread a simple message: Unprotected sex and alcohol are a dangerous combination. Drinking alcohol during pregnancy, even in the earliest days, can cause life-long learning and behavioral problems, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
