Students should be vigilant against abuse

Editorial

by Emerald Editorial Board

No one knows exactly how many assaults occur on campus because many people who are assaulted never report the incident. Nevertheless, reported incidents happen often enough to elicit an ample amount of concern on campus and its surrounding areas. This does not mean, however, that students should live in fear.

Goonies never say die!

In my opinion

by Emily Hemson

This past summer, my maple syrup loving friend paid me a visit all the way from Vermont. Along with his suitcases, he brought one request - he wanted to see where "The Goonies" was filmed. Upon this suggestion, I looked him directly in the eye and yelled, "goonies never say die!" Once the shock of my response wore off, we booked a hotel and headed to Astoria.

The Insurgent is only good for laughing at

In my opinion

by Tyler Graf

It is no secret that my favorite on-campus humor publication is the Student Insurgent. My heart palpitates whenever a new issue comes out because I know that I will soon be laughing hysterically at the paper's unintentional brand of whimsy. Every issue is a peek into the fevered minds of a group of incoherently angry anarchists, as they spout vitriol on purportedly "edgy" topics, like how capitalism sucks, or how Christians are bigots, or how J-school perpetuates the patriarchal paradigm.

Lower budget will decrease students' chances for education

Guest commentary

by Dan Bernstine, Mary Cullinan, Martha Anne Dow, Khosrow Fatemi, Dave Frohnmayer, John Minahan, Ed Ray

As presidents of the seven Oregon University System institutions, we are concerned about the higher education operating and capital budgets proposed by the co-chairs of the Joint Legislative Committee on Ways and Means. If enacted, the proposals could significantly increase tuition for all Oregon students and families, would compromise student access - especially for rural Oregonians - and could turn away millions of dollars in private support for repairing and replacing aging campus facilities that ensure access to classes and laboratories.
