Gunman kills 32 at Virginia Tech shooting before killing himself

University and emergency officials say the University community is prepared to handle a incident similar to Monday's Virginia Tech shooting in which a gunman killed 32 people and himself. At least two shootings occurred on or near University property in the 1970s and '80s, but none have occurred in recent history.

University chemist bags Guggenheim Fellowship

The odds aren't good for snagging a Guggenheim Fellowship in chemistry. Out of 2,800 artists, scholars and scientists who applied nationally this year, only 189 were selected; only two of those winners are chemists. University chemistry professor Geri Richmond is one of them.

ASUO executive hopefuls spar over slates, stipends at last formal debate

The final two tickets for ASUO president squared off Monday night in the last formal debate of the election season. Presidential candidates Sara Hamilton and Emily McLain fielded questions relating to incidental fee money, while their running mates, Athan Papailiou and Chii-San SunOwen, were asked about topics ranging from slate politics to campus safety.
