St. Patrick's Day a busy night for police

Eugene police responded to a report of a man threatening bouncers at a downtown bar and issued at least 36 citations Saturday night and early Sunday morning for minor in possession, prohibited nudity, urinating in public, open container and loud noise, according to a Eugene Police Department press release.
Eugene police doubled patrols Saturday night for expected alcohol-related calls during the St. Patrick's Day weekend. The increased patrols allowed police to prevent issues from getting out of control without reducing response time for other calls.
At 1:45 a.m. on Sunday, Eugene police responded to a report of an armed man menacing two bouncers at John Henry's bar at 77 W. Broadway. A bouncer attempted to remove the man but was distracted by another intoxicated customer. The first customer returned and threatened the bouncers with a gun in front of at least seven bystanders, according to the press release.
The man was forced to leave, but officers arrived at the scene and located the man at Eighth Avenue and Charnelton Street. According to the press release, Benjamin Straton, 24, of Springfield was arrested on three counts of menacing, reckless endangering and unlawful use of a firearm. The press release also stated that David Ellingboe, 22, of Springfield was cited for second-degree trespass. Neither are University students, and both have yet to be charged.
At 4:23 p.m. on Saturday, a driver in a vehicle police suspect was stolen, crashed and then fled on foot in the Bethel area. Police responded with K-9 units and captured the man in a blackberry thicket near Highway 99. Jesse Black, 38, was arrested for eluding police, reckless driving, resisting arrest, interfering with police and possession of a stolen vehicle, according to the press release. He is not a University student, and he has not been charged.
