Give me a home where the beer drinkers roam

In my opinion

by Ossie Bladine

The ASUO has $800,000 of surplus to spend and I'm damn thirsty. Why not kill two birds with one stone and use the extended fees to establish a student-owned, student-run tavern on campus? But wait, isn't serving alcohol on campus against the rules? Not quite.

Vegan lifestyle a beneficial alternative for all

Letter to the editor

by Pulin Modi

Thanks for your article ("PETA president speaks about vegan lifestyle," ODE, Jan. 31) about Ingrid Newkirk 's new book "50 Awesome Ways Kids Can Help Animals." Wouldn't it be wonderful if there were no more school shootings, no more MySpace videos that show animals abused by children, and no more childhood obesity, diabetes, and other diseases? If everyone treated all living beings with the compassion and respect they deserve, we could be closer to this reality.
