Donor pledges additional $1 million if matched
by Steven Neuman |
Less than a week after the announcement of Lorry Lokey's $12.5 million gift for the College of Education building, University President Dave Frohnmayer announced Tuesday that Lokey has increased an earlier $4 million donation for the School of Music and Dance's renovation and expansion project with a $1 million matching donation.
Lokey's additional $1 million will be donated if the school matches that amount with funds from other donors before Dec. 31. The resulting $2 million will be used to complete funding for the first phase of the project, which was budgeted for $15.2 million but is now projected to cost $17.2 million because of inflation.
At Lokey's request, the expanded music building will be named after Frohnmayer's mother, MarAbel B. Frohnmayer, a 1932 music school alumna.
To date, Lokey has pledged a total of $22 million and is one of the University's top donors, according to a University press release. Besides his gifts for education and music, he has also donated $4.5 million to help fund the School of Journalism and Communication's new George S. Turnbull Portland Center.
