Starting winter term, a Lane Transit District bus could serve the University until 2 a.m. if the ASUO and school administrators can agree on a way to fund the program.

The plan, authored by ASUO President Sam Dotters-Katz, seeks to extend the hours of the LTD's 79x route, which runs between campus and the Kinsrow area. The ASUO Senate will discuss the proposal at Wednesday night's 7 p.m. meeting.

Extending the route's hours will cost $40,257, Dotters-Katz said.

Dotters-Katz said the administration had offered to cover slightly more than half of the cost. The Senate will vote Wednesday night on whether it will authorize financing the rest of the cost with its $193,285.47 surplus fund.

Administrators and ASUO officers cited concerns over the safety of students walking home from campus in the dark as reasoning for the plan.
