The University theatre department will host an Ecodrama Festival and Symposium on theatre called "Earth Matters on Stage and Ecology" from May 21 through May 31.
EMOS confronts controversial topics facing society, such as sustainability and human dependency on Earth's resources. The EMOS Festival & Symposium will include theatre artists, activists and scholars from across the country for 10 days of performances, speakers and creative workshops. EMOS will open with two keynote speakers, New York University author and scholar Una Chaudhuri, and Rachel Rosenthal, an internationally renowned performance artist and teacher, who has called for compassion for the natural world in her daring productions.
The festival will also include an Ecodrama Playwrights Contest and the winners will be presented for this year's contest. Discussion with playwrights and other guest speakers will follow the performances.
A day of "Green Theatre Practice" presented by the Center for Sustainable Practice in the Arts and CalArts Los Angeles will offer speakers and workshops on arts practices Thursday, May 28 at 10 am.
