Experimental rock group On the Tundra is exploring uncharted territory.

The strictly-no-vocals band was launched in the summer of 2008 when guitarist Mark Leahey moved to Eugene to finish up his degree at the University. As founding member of the Detroit band The Sights, Leahey has toured with the legendary indie-rock band Guided By Voices and even with Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant.

After four months of auditions, On the Tundra was complete, and it began a musical journey in the steps of instrumental greats like Explosions in the Sky and Do Make Say Think.

On the Tundra performs this Friday at the Astoria in Eugene. Tickets are $3 and the show starts at 8 p.m.
